Boxing/MMA is effective for self-defense, fitness, and personal growth. If you’re interested in building self-confidence, improving physical fitness, and learning valuable life skills while enjoying a supportive community, this could be the perfect fit for you. But there’s only one way to find out…you have to try it!
Solarte stands out for its professional instruction, structured curriculum, welcoming community, and holistic approach to well-being. Our focus on individual growth, both on and off the mats, sets us apart from other martial arts schools in the area.
Safety is our top priority. Our instructors are highly trained to ensure a safe training environment, and we teach techniques with a focus on control and injury prevention. We also provide guidelines for safe and responsible training.
Consistency is key to improvement. We recommend attending classes at least 2 times per week to experience steady progress. However, you can adjust your training frequency based on your goals and schedule.
We recommend purchasing your own hand wraps, boxing gloves and a jump rope sized for you. If you decide to spar, you have the option of getting a boil and bit mouth guard and shin guards. Talk with Curtis for details on other types of gear to consider.
No. You don’t have to do anything you’re uncomfortable with. However, we highly recommend sparring with Curtis because he is extremely safe and controlled. You learn a LOT about timing and strategy that you can’t get from just drilling. Most students do not compete and it is not required. Again, if you are interested in competition, please talk with Curtis about safe, professional options.
We have a very informal training environment. You don’t have to ask perpmission to go on or off the mats. You’re welcome to take breaks at any time. You’ll usually work with at least one or two training partners. You DO NOT have to train with anyone you don’t want to train with!
It’s best if you arrive about 10 minutes early to get your hand wraps on and your gear together. We usually warm up with a couple 3-minute rounds of jump rope. For MMA work, there will be other warm ups to introduce movements such as wrestling sprawls. Curtis also teaches different boxing and kickboxing combinations. You’ll work with him and your fellow students, learning to hold pads such as Muay Thai pads and focus mitts. It’s a LOT of fun and keeps the brain sharp! Classes usually end with optional rounds of light, controlled sparring.
The instructors at the club are NOT gods, Yoda or secret wisdom keepers. It doesn’t matter if they’re wearing a black belt. They’re just human beings who love martial arts and want to share it with you. If you want to call them “Coach” feel free, but most feel way more comfortable if you just call them by name.
The Boxing/MMA program does not have a belt system. However, you are always welcome to ask Coach Curtis what you need to work on to improve. We’re here to help you get better!
