Solarte BJJ in Sequim opened its doors at the end of August 2017. Solarte’s mission is to make affordable, high quality jiu jitsu instruction available to the community. With this in mind, the club runs entirely on donations without a focus on profit. We do have suggested donation amounts ($5 to $10 per class, self-determined sliding scale), but those who are unable to pay will not be turned away due to lack of funds. The people who pay are, in essence, giving a gift to those who cannot. Donations collected go directly toward the rental fees for the mat space. The instructors at Solarte are unpaid and donate their time. They’ve experienced the benefits this type of training offers to the mind, body and spirit and simply wish to share these gifts with the community.
Yes, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is a very effective martial art for self protection and helps its students develop discipline and coordination. But BJJ also offers other unique benefits which Solarte’s instructional style emphasizes. At Solarte, we help students understand the “hows and whys” of the techniques and concepts we teach. We encourage discussion, creativity and cooperative learning. Solarte students also learn efficient body mechanics, developing a deeper understanding of how to move one’s body in a coordinated, harmonious way to generate the most force. Come train with us and gain new levels of confidence based on testing your skills through safe yet challenging drills as well as sparring (called “rolling” in BJJ). Instruction is tailored to suit the goals and pace of each individual student. The teaching method and program structure are designed to help students learn more quickly and efficiently (while still having fun!)
If you’re interested in learning why Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is called “physical chess”, contact us for your free intro session + free 2-day pass.
