Solarte BJJ Competition Team Earns Medals!

Congratulations to the Solarte BJJ Competition Team!!! Four Solarte team members competed at the April 6th Revolution BJJ Tournament. The Rev is one of the biggest Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournaments in our region, with competitors coming from as far away as Alaska and Montana. Our coaching staff decided that, since it was everyone’s first time competing in BJJ, the Revolution would be a good opportunity for them to get the most matches possible. (Often, smaller tournaments don’t have enough participants for competitors to get matches with similarly aged/experienced grapplers.)

Despite a training camp fraught with illness, work conflicts and family emergencies, Karl, Jin, Adam, Garret and the team kept going. Solarte BJJ Competition Team beginners, Adam, Jin and Garret had strong showings. Adam scored some great takedowns and recovered after a first-round loss to win his second match by points.

Jin and Garret had just begun BJJ in the weeks before the competition. Nevertheless, Jin had a very dominant first match and won by several points as he solidified top and back controls. Unfortunately, he began to have difficulty breathing and eventually conceded his last match. Garret defended submissions well and allowed his opponent only a narrow points victory.

Karl first arrived at the club five weeks before the tournament having not trained for the last three years. He managed to shake the rust off and get a hard-won silver versus some tough opponents. (At 250lbs, Karl was the small guy in his intermediate division.)

I’m incredibly proud of our competitors’ hard work and determination. HUGE thanks to the supporting team of coaches, dedicated training partners, family and friends.❤️ With all the adversity that occurred during the weeks before The Rev, everyone had to pull together to make it possible for our guys to do as well as they did.🥈🥈

Thanks also to the Revolution for creating such a well-run tournament—we appreciate you!🙏
